Students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of examination classes from the age of 5 upwards. Held during the month of August, examinations are viewed and marked by an external examiner at the Newton Studio. Examination classes are a fantastic way for students to develop essential dance technique and build on theoretical concepts related to movement. Styles offered include:
Tap
The CSTD Tap Syllabus is a complete training package with graduated exercises, amalgamations and dance routines tailored to respective age groups.
The Tapping Syllabus includes:
Induction to basic tapping technique
Introduction to rhythm patterns in music
Developing coordination
Promotion of self expression
Confidence building
Strengthening of ankle joints

Classical Ballet
The Classical Syllabus is comprised of Foundation, Progressive and Major Grades. These classes are designed to assist children in building technique before advancing to subsequent levels.
The Classical Syllabus includes:
Introduction to basic and true ballet technique
Increased emphasis on correct posture, placement and line
Introduction to rhythm patterns in music
Enhancing coordination and flexibility
Promoting self-confidence
Development of expression
Strength building

Modern Jazz
The Jazz Syllabus is comprised of 10 Grades, aimed at developing basic dance technique. Students learn a number of different exercises which come together to form a fun and energetic dance routine.
The Jazz Syllabus involves:
Introduction to basic technique
Strength building
Promoting self-confidence
Attention to detail
Enhancing coordination and flexibility
Development of expression
Memory of movement patterns
